“While cameras generated a mechanical reproduction of a scene, she explained that it does so only after a human develops a ‘mental conception’ of the photo, which is a product of decisions like where the subject stands, arrangements and lighting, among other choices.
“‘Human involvement in, and ultimate creative control over, the work at issue was key to the conclusion that the new type of work fell within the bounds of copyright,’ Howell wrote.”

P4 Protagonist’s Starting City
I guess this is fitting to post about after I just got home from Tokyo lol. This is something I brought up in the “Is Namatame an outsider?” post. There is a bigger, more detailed explanation than the one I gave there.
At the beginning of Persona 4, the protagonist is shown standing at a train station that has a sign saying “Inouesen” and “For Akihabara” with a green stripe going through the middle. The “sen” is like saying “(train) line”, so he’s riding the Inoue Line at some unnamed station and he’s boarding at track 5.
The green stripe on the sign, the green train, and the mention of Akihabara gives away that the train line he’s riding is based on the real life Yamanote Line in Tokyo. They don’t name Tokyo, but Persona ¾/5 seem to take place in the same universe, and Persona 5’s map of Tokyo does have Akihabara on the green train line.
As for where he’s riding the train from and to… hmm, lol. That’s hard. Maybe he’s at Shimbashi Station? The Yamanote that would go in the direction of Akihabara is on track 5 at Shimbashi and is also on an outside lmao. I’m not a train otaku - maybe I need to meet one and ask them about this.
I have nfc where he’s taking it to either. We know that his ultimate destination is Inaba. Perhaps he’s going to Tokyo Station to catch a connecting train to wherever Inaba is?
On the subject of Inaba: I’m still a fan of Tottori as the physical location of Inaba, and Atlus has also written about using buildings in Fuefuki as references. The train that the protagonist rides to the Yasogami terminal is a parody of the Azusa (a real train that stops near Fuefuki) that says あとらす / Atlus instead of Azusa on the nameplate lol.
For an extra level of detail hell: The protagonist has a text message from Dojima saying to meet at the station at 4pm. Can you go from all the way from Tokyo to Fuefuki or Tottori by 4pm?
These aren’t perfect since the protagonist has another local train to catch after making it to Yasogami Station, but for the most part: Yeah. For Tottori, you can even ride the Super Inaba for part of the journey.
I don’t think Reddit gets enough credit for how hilariously buckwild the subreddit system is.
Like it makes sense on the surface. The subreddits are all topic-focused independent message boards, each with their own moderator teams, and you can curate which ones show up on your feed. Subscribe to the ones that suit your interests and bam you’re good.
Except the question of WHO is in charge of every subreddit is an objectively hilarious system. Anyone can create a subreddit. Under any name. Who holds the keys to the kingdom is strictly determined by whoever managed to camp the name first. It’s like tumblr URL wars except if whoever managed to grab the URL “homestuck” got to be defacto in charge of the entire homestuck fandom.
Or at least they get to be in charge until they anger the populace and get ousted, Julius Caesar style, by the team of fellow moderators they brought aboard, or until they voluntarily sign the deed over because they don’t want to deal with 600,000 angry homestuck fans every single day, or they get mutinied against and all the REAL homestuck fans flock over to “curatedhomestuck” or “homestuckcirclejerk” or “homestuckcirclejerkcirclejerk”.
You get seemingly benign subreddits about things like baking or kittens that have absolutely batshit rules because the whole thing is being run by a paranoid and power-hungry 23-year-old from Arkansas. You get inter-subreddit beef where the mods of r/cutekittensdoingcutethings will ban you from their subreddit because you have a history of posting in r/genshinimpact. You get subreddits that fall to ruin and spam because the moderators in charge vanished into the night without passing power along to anyone else.
Redditors love to complain about Reddit moderators and this surprises me not at all because there is simply no possible way that the Reddit moderation system could be a smooth-running machine when its defining underlying mechanic is First Come First Serve. And that’s hilarious to me. That’s hilarious. Political system where the King is chosen from among the populace of people who comment “first” on Youtube videos. You can’t beat that.
a little more information regarding the maui wildfires:
- medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
- hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
- thousands are still missing
- an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
- people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.
hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.

Whoever needs to hear this. Please know.
“Closed at 6pm” does not mean “The entry door locks up at 6, but if you’re already inside you can keep on shopping.”
It means, “you should be finished and out of the store at 6pm.”
This is not up for debate
This is just how things work
Obsessed with this energy tbh
